Sharmin Sharna

Postdoctorante

sharmin.sharna@synchrotron-soleil.fr

I began my academic journey with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Manchester, UK, followed by an Erasmus Mundus Double Master’s in Materials Science across institutions in France and Germany.
Under the guidance of Prof. Ovidiu Ersen, I completed my Ph.D. in collaboration with IFP Energies Nouvelles in Lyon and the University of Strasbourg in 2021. My research focused on unraveling the degradation of heterogeneous copper-based materials for thermochemical CO₂ capture. Utilizing advanced techniques such as in situ TEM, in situ XAS, and X-ray microscopy, I proposed a comprehensive ageing mechanism involving multi-scale diffusion and active phase-support interactions.
Currently, I am a Postdoctoral Researcher at Synchrotron SOLEIL in collaboration with ITODYS and Université Grenoble Alpes, where I am expanding my expertise in studying electrocatalysts using operando X-ray absorption spectroscopy and IR spectroscopy.
Beyond my research, I am an avid reader, love experimenting with global cuisines, and find solace in backpacking adventures.
